Audio – Unit 5

List and describe 5 ways audio can be used in a computer game.

  1. Footsteps, when you move the character footsteps can make it better and effective.
  2. Attack, when you attack (zombies) you use a gun, so gun fire effect.
  3. Opening a door, when you open a door in a scary game you can add a creaky noise to make it more horror/scary type.
  4. GTA – when you’re playing the game, its like a real life game it has all the sound effects that you would hear on a normal day, you got the cars, people, trains, buses, planes, animals and all day to day effects, these audio effects make this game a life like game it makes it sound realistic.
  5. FIFA – when you score a goal, all the fans start cheering , that audio makes the game more life like and effective.

On YouTube research a film or computer game sequence that uses sound to create atmosphere.

I done some research and found this film called ‘Sinister’ which was made in 2012. There’s a jump scare part and the sound effects make it a lot more scary then it is – without the audio it would be a lot less scary and jumpy.

About Sinister.

Sinister is a 2012 American supernatural horror film co-written and directed by Scott Derrickson. The film stars Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, James Ransone, Fred Thompson, and Vincent D’Onofrio. The plot revolves around fictional true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt, whose discovery in the attic of his new house of a box of home movies depicting grisly murders puts his family in danger.

Here’s a video of the jump scare part YouTube link below:

I’m now choosing audio music for the background of the game and sound effects for in the game.

I’ll be adding sound effect into my game, in my game you walk/run along platforms and jump, also you have to collect these coins/icons the more you get the more points you collect. With the sound effects I want to have a running effect sound on my character when he’s moving along and also when you collect the coins/icon I want to have an pick-up effect.

Audio making for unity.

Today I’m going to get a sound effect from google and use it to edit it to make it my own sound and then use it as a sound effect in my game, I’ll be using a software called Adobe Audition CC – never used it before so I’ll be using a Youtube tutorial on how to use the program.

I followed a little bit of this tutorial to get the hang of buttons and tool, and then I just messed around with the sound effect I downloaded and so far I’ve created three versions.

I’ve created two versions of my own on the sound effect I downloaded – I tried uploading them to WordPress but I can’t find a way so they’re in a folder on my desktop.

I’ve now created a new jump sound effect for my game and I’ll be adding it into my game now – I’ll be doing an update on adding the effect on my game word press will leave link below.
