Chris has given us all a task to go into Unity and create something using the word “Blizzard”
Mood board.
I want something to do with the word blizzard, so I searched for a snow blizzard for Unity but I couldn’t find any. Going through Unity prefabs I came across a sandstorm prefab and decided to use that and that gave me the idea to make a sandstorm blizzard.
I kinda like the palm trees all in a row both sides of a road in LA (picture below) this has given me an idea for my blizzard project in Unity. The reason I chosen palm trees is because palm trees and sand go well together and in LA it’s all trees and beaches.

I had this vision of a scene of the trees in a row with a sandstorm and that’s what I want to create in Unity.
The picture (below) is what I vision my scene to be and what I want to create in Unity.

What I need to create this
- Unity
- Trees
- Sandstorm
- Water/sea/beach
I went on Unity and download some tree prefabs and then lined them up in a row just like the picture above. But I didn’t want a road.
I also went into Unity and downloaded the asset called “Standard Assets (For Unity 2017.3) So after it all downloaded I imported a simple 3D third person character with a camera to follow the movement and a simple layout design (Picture below) I added snow as the floor and put water around the island.

After looking at the design I then imported a sandstorm prefab and then edited it within the settings to make it smaller and put it on top if the tress (as you see in picture above) so that it will make it a thicker storm, below I’ll leave a video of me playing and tweaking the settings of the storm.
After creating it all I then saved it into a folder called Unity in my college drive (picture below)

After going through my ideas (at the top) I decided to add more trees and now added a road just like the pictures (above) below I’ll leave two screen shots, one shows me looking down the line of trees towards the sandstorm and the second picture shows me standing on the road looking down it looking towards the storm.
I think adding the road is a really good idea, it gives the picture more detail and gives it more of a story.
I downloaded an simple asset from the Unity asset store called “Kajaman’s Roads – Free” (picture below)

This asset (above) gave me the option to insert a road material to the road I made from a cube.
Looking back at my latest update on my sandstorm scene I wanted to add some buildings at the sides , maybe between the trees or leave the trees and have them in front of the buildings.
I decided to add paths and then buildings so its more life like, below I’ll have screen shots of the paths I’ve added and also the buildings I’ve added.

I simply added two cubes and sized them to make them both look like paths and then I created a material and made the colour grey. (picture below)

The buildings (below) I just downloaded a free asset from the asset store called “Building Apartment” I’ll leave a screen shot below of the asset.

I added two buildings twice each, added two one side on the road and the others across from each other. I resized them to make them more realistic.

After adding all the buildings, paths and other details this is the final picture of my sandstorm.(below) This picture was inspired by the row of trees going down a road in LA and the sandstorm was inspired from LA too because it’s all about the sun and beach in LA, nice hot weather.

I like my scene setup, the trees from LA inspired me and to have a similar setup just from having the idea of is really amazing and I’m really happy what I’ve created. The only downside of my sand storm scene is that I couldn’t get my sand storm to move towards me when I’m standing in one spot but the storm does cover the whole scene.
After talking about my like and dislikes about my sand storm scene it made me think about recording the scene and showing more instead of just pictures, so I recorded me walking down the road and showing everything I’ve down. (link below)
